Real Local Feature | Milwickee Candles

For local business owner Daniela Iannello candles are more than just a way to freshen up a space, they are a way for her to reconnect with her love of  hand-made art and provide people with a serene escape from the day-to-day.

“The feeling of bringing a little light and happiness into people’s homes never gets old,” Daniela said.

Daniela began candle making when she realized that most of the candles she was burning at home contained a large amount of chemicals. Instead of searching for better candles to burn, Daniela decided to take matters into her own hands and create candles that she knew were safer.

Since 2019, when she started experimenting with candles, Daniela quickly discovered her passion for the science of candle making and strived to perfect this artform. That’s when she created Milwickee Candles.

“I can appreciate that candle making requires me to slow down,” Daniela said. “It demands a steady hand and is quite therapeutic.”

Every candle made by Milwickee Candles is non-toxic, handcrafted and made with clean ingredients. Daniela says every component of their candles has a purpose, so you can burn them with the confidence that they are safe for you and your family.

The wax they use is sustainable and clean-burning, their wicks don’t contain any lead or zinc, and their fragrances are infused with essential oils and are phthalate-free. They even come in beautiful tumblers that you can reuse as a cocktail glass.

Having created this product and built this business from nothing, Daniela says she is honored to be a part of the Milwaukee makers community. She enjoys creating bonds with other local businesses and celebrating the hard work it took them to get to where they are.

“Communities are built on small businesses,” Daniela said. “Embracing and supporting local, for me, just feels better.”

One of Daniela’s favorite sayings is “When you buy from a small business, an actual person does a little happy dance.” This is something she says is very true for her and most likely for a lot of other small businesses.
